Dear Henry, miracles do happen
What a week... Sunday night was so scary... Monday was also very scary. Tuesday was confusing, Wednesday easier and Thursday was almost like it never happened.
Let's start with Tuesday.. Henry was looking better, they day that the blood helped. He is also a little more active today, but still not the same feisty little man. The doctor came in to tell us that the steroids along with everything else he has been on for the last day and a half have helped. He is still sick but the doctor said that since he is responding so well to treatment he believes that Henry will pull through and there won't be any permanent damage. We also know what caused all of this craziness, it was a adrenal gland issue, which caused everything in his body to halt. This explains while his bowels stopped moving, why he stopped peeing and why he was so lethargic. Now that we know what the issue was they started to really get this thing taken care of.
On Wednesday Henry turned 4 weeks old, so we made 1 dozen cupcakes for every week of his sweet little life for the nurses! Tara was back from vacation and Henry's primary doctor was in... all seemed right in the world. To top it all off Henry is feeling so much better today... not 100% but he had his color back and he was on and off 21% oxygen (mostly on) he started to eat, his episodes weren't as common, his temperature was normal and the best part of all... He could be held again. It was like I was waking up from the haze. Just when life gets so dark and scary somehow this tiny soul is able to bring us all back to light, his skin is so comforting and I just basked in the sunshine that is our Henry.
Wednesday evening he got a new bed and Matt got to help change everything! It was so cute!
Then came Thursday. Even though I had watched Henry get better and better every day I didn't expect this day to come so soon. When I walked in this morning he was Henry again, as feisty as ever. I asked Tara at least 4 times throughout the morning if he was better "so he is NOT sick anymore"?, and she had the same answer every time... he is much better, and not sick right now, ask the doctor when he gets here. So when the doctor came in for the last time on Thursday I said "So he is NOT sick"? his response was that the steroids worked and his x-ray looked good, so today he is not sick. He goes on to say that this won't be his only bump in the road, and that just because he isn't sick right now and he was able to get over his illness quickly doesn't mean that we are in the clear. I find his candor endearing.. he kind of reminds me of someone.... I ignore the last bit of information and I'm back to the glitter and confetti!
Henry is so amazing... he went from sick and critical to not sick in less then 4 days. He shows us everyday what a little fighter he is!
